Update on UK Detainees in Israel

Because it is a Sunday and we have only just heard this news, we are trying to spread the word as well as we can - so we'd be really really grateful if you could forward this email to your contacts. This story places The Spirit of Humanity in Gazan waters rather than in international waters as stated in a previous article I posted here. Nonetheless, the boat was absolutely not in Israeli territory subject to Israeli law.

In 1962 the United States blockaded Cuba, itself an act of war, but they had the good sense to at least call it a "quarrantine". Israel has made no such claim. They threatened a small, unarmed vessel with violence. They jammed communication and navigational equipment. They took American citizens and jailed them for no percievable crime. This should be considered an act of war on the United States... We are already in the neighborhood, just pull out of Iraq and start shocking and awing Tel Aviv! Of course there should first be diplomatic attempts to settle differences and maybe we could avoid dropping the bombs. But there will be no diplomacy here, no dropping of bombs, at least not on Israel. From Washington, only silence. Silence implies consent. Who is your government working for?

Welcome to The Last Resort.

The name has two meanings. I began by posting articles I found on the web to my social networking page and forwarding those articles to freinds and family. I felt that they only needed to be educated and informed of needless violence and injustice in the world, and they'd rally against it. Instead, I found that not only did many not want to hear about it, they actively supported it! I was roundly rebuked for what I was trying to disseminate so, as a 'Last Resort', I started this blog. 'The Last Resort' also refers to a quote from Isaac Asimov, to wit: "Violence is the last resort of the incompetent" - Violence sometimes does become necessary, but there are usually so many options to violence, so many steps before it becomes necessary when it can be avoided entirely. This site is dedicated to that.

While it is anti-Zionist, it is not anti-semetic. I hold no ill toward Jews as a people, or Judaism as a religion or a culture indeed, I find it rich and fascinating. But when a government acts in a racist fashion, is needs to be held accountable for it's actions regardless of it's name.
